In this post, we aren't talking about conservation, but something that might spread the word about it. It's been a year since we got the Happy Craft drone. It worked for only one month (this month), and was not able to quality images and videos for the CCAG. Yesterday, we upgraded our video taking craft from a P8 Drone to a Potensic Atom SE Foldable GPS Drone Combo. In this post, we'll be telling you about the footage we'll collect from the new "Happy Craft Deluxe" and the pros and cons of the two drones.
So lets start off. When I got the first Happy Craft, I wasn't able to control it. The drone was slanting to a side when I wasn't even controlling it. So I looked up why. I found out that the bolts were not tight enough. I tightened them up, and it did not fly. After leaving it in my toy box for a few months, I brought it back. Somehow, it flew normally, and took 5 shots for our new film Push Me Away 2 . However, the quality of the camera needed to be sharpened twice before the quality could reach 4K.
And the camera app did not function properly as well. It did not have as much features (e.g showing drone's speed, height). The app was overall poorly made, and the quality wasn't suitable to put in new films. The drone advertised an "8K" (better than 4K) camera, but the footage was less than 144p (low). To connect the drone camera with the app, a WiFi swap was required. The drone remote has a built in router, which solely gives connection from the drone to the phone (it does not give free internet)
Overall, that drone was broken and beat up. It was replaced with a new drone with new functions. First off, the new drone has GPS. That means if it was lost, you could go on the app and track it's location. Even better - there is a setting where you can fly it back to your home. GPS features on drones will also stop the drone from flying in prohibited areas like national parks, forests, or areas within 5 miles of an airport. That is important because the drones may have a significant impact on the wildlife which lives within the national park. Furthermore, airplanes often confuse the drone for a fellow airplane, which may delay flights.
The new drone also has a better camera with resolutions to 4K. Within the app, you can see the measures of distance, location, speed (upward and downward), and even the quality of the video. In addition, it gives you tips on how to fly the drone without crashing.
The new drone will be used to capture videos for upcoming films, and will be taken to record on beach excursions when permitted.
Here is a screen recording of the Potensic app that lets you see more than just the photos and videos you've recently took. This video I took at my house, where the drone rises above 10 feet. Towards the left of my backyard, you can see the TMAD—in aerial view! We hope that you watch our new film Up Again, which will feature *real* drone footage. Happy Holidays!
