New Film! The Hidden Predator of San Francisco’s Scrublands

I have finished a new short film about the San Francisco Alligator Lizard, a local subspecies of the Northern Alligator lizard that I see regularly near Glen Park Reservoir. It’s a unique, snake-like lizard that people often miss because of its shyness and incredible agility. Beneath the scrub lies a hidden world that few people notice. This unusual lizard looks like a snake with legs, staying close to the ground and moving silently through the undergrowth. It waits patiently in the shadows, ready to ambush its unsuspecting prey.

The reason I created this documentary was to raise awareness about the undiscovered animals that can be found in ordinary places around us. Many people walk their dogs in this park every day, yet they never notice the lizards and other beautiful scrub life living there.

Glen Park Reservoir is also different from the more well-known Glen Canyon Park. The San Francisco alligator lizards are absent from Glen Canyon Park, but just across the street, in Glen Park Reservoir, they can be found. I wanted to highlight how wildlife can exist in places that people pass by every day without realizing it.
