Building a Complex Habitat

Our New Hawaii style reef tank will be our complex habitat yet. It will involve live corals, which are extremely hard to take care of. Here is the list of things we are going to need:

Aquarium (within greenhouse, set 74ºF during winter and 82ºF su,,er):

Reef Heater (done)

Aquarium thermostat (done)

Filter

Coral food

Greenhouse:

Heater (between 61-75ºF during winter; 70-81ºF during summer)

thermostat

rain system (rains once every couple of days, regardless of season)

humidifier/mister (bas

The current inhabitants of the tank include Hawaiian Reef Crabs (Calcinus seurati) Hawaiian Black Nerites (Nerita picea) and Dotted Periwinkles (Littoraria pintado). We've also included a propagule of a Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) because they favor warm, tropical water.

Corals and live rock are expected to be introduced within the next week, as well as macro algae and other plants.

Curious to learn about this environment (the coral reefs) and the diverse animals within them? Wait for our documentary, Pacific Coast's ecosystems, coming this August!
