If you haven't been to the tidepool, then you should read this. These are some rules that people follow when they go to the tidepools. They're here to keep you save AND the animals, so we can enjoy them.
Watch your step! Anemones like to carpet the tidepool floor with their clones. Mussels that crowd around the floor have hard shells, but it's still better to go around them. Same goes for the following animals living on the floor:barnacles, limpets, chitons etc.
Don't bring your pet. Dogs can easily hurt a delicate animal like a crab or a sea slug
Try not to touch anything or bring it out from water. Most animals like crabs and fish use gills to breathe; taking them out might kill them. You can touch animals like limpets that are found on dry rock - but please don't touch the ones residing in the water!
Collecting animals is fine when there is a sign but overall refrain from doing so. This can damage the ecosystem, and when you bring an animal home, chances are, it will die. Think of someone pulling you out of your home. However, if it is the right season, be sure to look at California's fishing regulations to see when you can fish.
Better things you can do instead of collecting is using a camera, or sketching the animal
Pick up your trash. This may not seem important, but it is. A plastic bag may go all the way out into deep ocean, and get stuck in some animal's body.
That's It! Be sure to follow the rules each time you go to the tidepools! It will guaranteed keep you and the animals safe.
